The Barakah of Stability

Suhba Club Editors

One moment, everything feels normal. The next, the ground quite literally shifts.

Across the globe, people wake up to news of conflict, crisis or chaos, each event a sharp reminder of how fragile our sense of normalcy truly is.

In a world that changes in an instant, what is the real worth of a “normal” day? A peaceful morning, an uneventful commute, a week without disruption, these are not mundane. They are hidden blessings, subtle signs of Barakah and miracles that often go unnoticed.

Barakah as Rootedness

The connection between stability and blessing is echoed in the Qur’an,

“And He placed on the earth firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures’] sustenance in four days without distinction - for those who ask.”1

Mountains, among the most enduring features of the earth, are described here as both signs of stability and vessels of divine blessing. The pairing is not coincidental.

Stability is not the absence of movement - it is the firm ground from which peace, growth and purpose can emerge.

Consider how difficult it would be to thrive if one had to relocate every few months. Establishing roots, building deep relationships or progressing in one’s goals would become a constant struggle.

In the same way, spiritual and emotional growth also require anchoring, spaces of stillness and steadiness from which the soul can ascend.

This is the essence of Barakah as rootedness: the unseen blessing that allows life to take hold and flourish.

When Stability Feels Distant

Stability is one of life’s most precious blessings, but it’s not always guaranteed.

In today’s world, global conflict, rising living costs and widespread social unrest have shaken the sense of security many once took for granted.

So how does one seek Barakah when the ground beneath feels unstable?

1. Recognise & Appreciate What Stability You Have

Even in the midst of uncertainty, most of us are granted moments, however small of steadiness - a roof over our heads, food on the table, good health or the comfort of supportive relationships. These are not insignificant. They are profound blessings.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever among you wakes up secure in his home, healthy in his body and has his food for the day, it is as if the world has been gathered for him.” 2

When we train our hearts to see the extraordinary in what appears ordinary, gratitude becomes a source of Barakah in itself.

2. Cultivate Internal Stability

When external structures falter, the soul seeks an anchor.

Barakah can still be found in the form of inner steadiness rooted in Īmān (faith)

- Trust in Divine Decree

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Know that if the entire nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, they would not benefit you except with what Allah had already prescribed for you; and if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would not harm you except with what Allah had already prescribed against you.3

This awareness instills calm, allowing the believer to stand firm even as the world shifts.

- Hold Firm to Ṣalāh (Prayer)

Allah commands “Seek help through patience and prayer.”4

Ṣalāh (Prayer) provides rhythm, structure and spiritual grounding.

During times of upheaval like the early days of the pandemic, it was prayer that created a sense of stability when everything else fell into uncertainty.

- Reflect on the Steadfastness of Others

From the earliest Muslims to communities today facing war, displacement or hardship, countless believers have shown remarkable resilience while holding firmly to their Īmān (faith).

Their example reminds us that spiritual rootedness is not dependent on circumstances, it is cultivated through conviction.

3. Become a Source of Stability for Others

In chaotic times, Barakah can manifest through being a pillar of calm for those around us.

A steady presence. A consistent act of service. These seemingly small gestures can offer tremendous reassurance and hope.

The old saying, “Keep calm and carry on,” carries timeless wisdom.

When your inner state remains composed, you create space for others to breathe.

This is perhaps one of the most beautiful manifestations of Barakah: becoming a source of stability in unstable times.

With the help of Allah, we can be that steady presence, helping others feel grounded, supported and at peace, even amidst life’s storms. In doing so, we not only embody the strength of our īmān (faith), but also become vessels of divine mercy to those around us.

May Allah make us anchors of calm, bearers of Barakah and beacons of hope. Ameen.
